Europe's marketplace for new and used vehicles.
AutoScout24 is Germany's 2nd largest marketplace for new and used vehicles, helping people across Europe to find their dream vehicle.
I led design practices for cross-discipline teams to embed a customer-centred approach to product development. We sought feedback and insights from vehicle searchers through interviews, usability testing, card sorting exercises and app store reviews.
The mobile team was comprised of multiple initiative teams, each tasked with driving a specific business goal (core app stability & growth). The design specialists worked across these teams within a continuous development cycle, releasing new ideas to market every two weeks and using A/B testing and analytics to understand impact on user behaviour and business metrics.
CONSUMER INTERVIEWS & CARD SORTING
In-house interviews and card sorting exercises helped us to understand more about the consumer search experience.
PRODUCT IDEATION & RAPID PROTOTYPING
After identifying the primary issues facing vehicle searchers I facilitated a series of ideation, concept sketching and rapid prototyping workshops to explore product ideas with cross-functional team members that could be put to the test with consumers.
CONTINUOUS RESEARCH & USER TESTING
We conducted regular in-house interviews and usability testing sessions in a lab setting. We tested paper and interactive prototypes as well as native app concepts to learn more about customer behaviour and further direct our product strategy.
A CONFIDENCE-LED APPROACH
Usability testing allowed us to learn and iterate on product concepts. When we were confident with the approach, we defined the product roll-out plan with the team. Each concept was broken down into release phases with the focus of getting the product into the hands of consumers as quickly as possible to further test our hypotheses.
Every design was created for Android and iOS catering for all screen sizes and resolutions. We built a design system to aid efficiency and consistency in design across the organisation.
We paid particular attention to motion to guide the user through the experience and built an illustration style throughout the application to enhance the brand and inject a little fun into the property search experience.
We worked closely with the software engineers to implement the best possible experience, working together to refine the intricacies of interaction and animation.
